Portrait of Jeanne Hebuterne by Amedeo Modigliani

This is a beautiful, very old, and very unique painting attributed to the great Amedeo Modigliani. The consignor declines to be identified. It is a portrait of Jeanne Hebuterne, the artist’s frequent model and subsequently his ill-fated wife. It truly is a one-of-a-kind piece, made with excellent materials. The frame is old and unique. On the back, there’s a 1919 label from the Galerie Karsten Greve of Paris where the artist sold many of his works. This is truly one of Modigliani’s finest works and would make a splendid investment for a buyer willing to wait and have it forensically authenticated when the major auction houses begin accepting forensics as evidence of authenticity in lieu of today’s requirement of a perfect provenance.
